Why do we learn Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Education (PSHE)?
Pupils at Ark Dickens will leave the academy with the skills and knowledge to ‘Be your Best’ as a result of well-planned, engaging PHSE lessons.
Our children will leave as well-rounded individuals, who will be able to:

Our approach
In line with the National Curriculum Framework, knowledge and skills are embedded across all PSHE lessons and are constantly revisited throughout pupils’ time at Ark Dickens. Each half term centres around a key overarching focus—Understanding Myself, Self with Others, and Self Within the World—which is explored through a range of topics including Wellbeing, My Body and Me, Healthy Choices, Healthy Relationships, Identity and Community, Digital Lives, Aspiration and Money, and Transition. Each lesson is taught weekly by the class teacher, as they have the best relationship with their pupils, and are tailored to the needs of our pupils. We strive to provide our students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset they need to confidently step into the future. By preparing them to face challenges with determination and optimism, we nurture their ability to adapt and grow. This reflects our school’s core value of resilience—the strength to persevere through difficulties and emerge stronger.
