Diversity and inclusion

We aim to build a diverse and inclusive organisation where everyone – staff and students – can do their best work and achieve their full potential.

Our community

Our pupils know and understand the importance of showing respect to everyone, whatever differences we may have, and to everything, whether it is a school resource or a religious belief. We promote and celebrate diversity by celebrating events such as Black History Month, Pride, and different religious festivals over the course of each year.

Miss Donovan wins an award!

We’re thrilled to announce that Miss Donovan from Ark Dickens has won the Inclusion and Diversity Award, proudly sponsored by Salterns Academy Trust! 🎉

This award recognises individuals who champion inclusive practices in education—Miss Donovan has done just that and more.

Through her innovative use of Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS), Miss Donovan has transformed the learning experiences of non-verbal pupils, ensuring they feel supported, engaged, and empowered every step of the way.

Accessibility

Ark Dickens is committed to providing a fully accessible environment, which values and includes all pupils, staff, parents and visitors regardless of their education, physical, sensory, social, spiritual, emotional and cultural needs. We are committed to challenging negative attitudes about disability and accessibility, and to developing a culture of awareness, tolerance and inclusion.

You can read about how our school curriculum caters to SEND learners here.

Curriculum

We reflect and represent diverse perspectives throughout our curriculum through our choice of topics, reading materials and trips out into the community.

Our staff and recruitment

Ark is an equal opportunity employer.Applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.
