As part of our History topic, Year 4 took part in a Maya workshop. The children will experience what life was like in Ancient Maya, through interactive activities and handling historical artefacts to enhance their learning through hands-on experiences. The day started with the children learning the ancient maya numbers, where they then put their new language skills to the test in a gameshow. For a selected few, they were even offered as sacrifice to the gods. As part of the day, the children put their hands to a bit of drama to showcase parts of maya life, from how to make hot chocolate and play pok-a-tok, to the death ritual carried out by maya people. The children had a brilliant day, taking part in drama, trying maya chocolate and exploring different maya artefacts.
