As part of our cultural celebration enrichment offer at Ark Dickens we learnt about the Hindu festival, Holi.
Holi celebrates the arrival of summer in India, the end of winter, the blossoming of love and for many, it is a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships. The festival is also an invocation for a good spring harvest season.
To mark the occasion, people throw coloured powder and water at each other, and this is exactly what we did! The coloured powder is thought to be a reference to Krishna throwing coloured water at people when he was a boy. The bright colours refer the bright colours of Spring.
